I just made a D9P for my grandfather (in-law).

This quilt:

is a Turning Twenty pattern called "Superman." I think it turned out very tasteful and masculine. Making a guy quilt is usually more about the fabrics than the pattern. Let us know what you decide to do.

One other thing..All three of my men...Hubby and grown boys all requested flannel quilts...so I did one side flannel. I made only one a plaid flannel...the other two really liked that one...I gave one a solid flannel...and he said Mom...how come I didn't get flannel. LOL...he did just not the printed flannel. He love it anyways. Nice and warm.

Yup, I agree.... it is more about the fabric than the pattern. Find your fabric first, then the pattern works well when trying to match a quilt to a particular person. Well, seems to work for me. LOL
FYI: I just had my hubby pick out a pattern for some brown toned flannel and he picked boxed squares.

My husband loves the squares too..woohoo...so glad he like the easy ones. I am staring at my fabric...all cut....and trying to get motivated to make myself a lapquilt today.

I have recently found what I think is the perfect masculine quilt, an argyle quilt. Good luck with whatever you decide to make.

I like the argyle one too. Hmmm box squares or argyle. If it helps I had the equivalent of 20 fat quarters and it made 168 squares I think. I have half of the top sewn and working on the other half today. It is 12 blocks by 14 blocks and looks like it will be plenty big for our queen size bed.
