Quilt that is older than

Methuselah.....
Ok maybe not THAT old. But my mother picked this old quilt up at an auction some where in a box of other junk. The quilt layed around, it was holey when she bought it lord only knows how long ago, until I stole it. The batting that is left in it looks like an old paper towel that has gotten wet and dried out several times. What kind of batting did the quilter use that would act like this. I wish I could get a picture of the quilt right now but my son is covered up with it on the couch. Even though there isn't much of it we still love it A LOT!!!!

Obviously, it was well loved before and is being loved again regardless of the condition. It might have been old newprint they used for batting or some sort of free type paper product as they did all sorts of things back then to make their quilts.
