quilt pattern for 5 year old boy
#1
I would really like to make a quilt for my soon to be 5 year old grandson. He sleeps in a "royal blue, car" bed. His favorite movie is "cars". I don't want the quilt to be too big. And, because he sweats so easily, I don't want it to be too heavy either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I know I've seen a couple beautiful ones here.

if he is sleeping in a car bed I think that the first one kwite did would be perfect. if you are wanting to make one that will be more versatile I would go with a different pattern. you should find out what his favorite shape is, other than car. and maybe do a quilt like that. if it is stars maybe one with star blocks or if he likes circles maybe some of those really awesome quilts that have balls or circles on them. is his car bed toddler size or twin size? because that could make a difference on what pattern you will be making also.

You could do a cotton top with just a flannel back, no batting. It would be light weight and breathable, but still warm, soft and cozy. Otherwise, use cotton batting. It breathes, and should keep him from sweating. My daughter is also very warm. She sleeps with a light weight (cotton batt) quilt on her bed and that's it, even in the dead of winter.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I'll check out Wal mart (need to pick up a cheap iron). The flannel back with no batting sounds good too. He really does run warm. Thanks to everyone. I really appreciate it.
