The "Quilting" fabrics usually are. Many quilt shops will also carry wool as there are some quilters who want to make wool quilts as well as the wool penny rugs and stuff. Some "Quilt" shops also carry other fabrics as well for other hobbies but most of those will call themselves "fabric" stores. Hope this helps. Of course the battings are another story, there are several different fibers used in batting so many will carry several types.

From Don--isewman1.-- I know when I usually go to quilt shop, I usually ask if the material is cotton/cotton poly.. I havent really had any problem's with what I use.. I sometimes, tell the person, what I'm going to do, and I get the service person's 2 cents worth..

It usually depends on what the interests of the owner are.
At one quilt shop in our area, you will find minkee, and wool, canvas, and oil cloth for diaper bags that they carry the pattern for.
I go to another quilt shop for fine clothing fabric, leather, and fleece, plus a good selection of 100% cotton.

It isn't really fleece ... but it is like a fur of some kind.
I don't like touching it, it must be like a micro fiber of some kind.
One of my friends has figured out that it stretches in one direction, and she uses it for quilt backings.
