Has anyone used rayon batting? I got some today at WalMart. Hadn't seen it before but thought I'd give it a try. I just got enough for a lap quilt. If you've used rayon batting, what is your opinion?

Rayon is made from natural fibers (sometimes from bamboo), but there is a lot of processing involved, so it is NOT a natural fiber. I don't think you can make generalizations that are true for all rayon batts. Check the label on the one you're interested in. Some rayon batts are particularly good for baby quilts because they're made to be fire retardant.

I found this info online:

My bet is that rayon is going to shrink a *lot*, especially if dried in a dryer (which is where most baby quilts are going to land) on a regular setting.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I'll be doing some shrink tests and will let you know how they turn out. I'm also considering it for a hand quilting project and will do some tests for that. Might be a while though cause July is pretty busy for me. In the meantime, any other comments or opinions are welcome here.
