i want to make some placemats, but if i were to use the store bought binding what kind should i use? a friend of mine made me some placemats that she had turned inside out and before doing so she put some lace all around. looks really nice. i was thinking of maybe even trying that also.

I usually make my binding, if you want to do that let us know. Myself or someone else can help you or better yet direct you to sites with picture instructions. But I have bought binding when I need a specific color and can't find it in fabric. Wrights double fold is the only binding I buy. The lace idea sounds good though. When you turn your placemat inside out you really do not need binding or lace. You can just top stitch and Wa La. Done. Hope this helped.

Yeah, once I started making my own that was it. You have so many more options making your own binding. Anyway here are a couple of sites to help.
I don’t know if you know about this website but I usually go to it for most of the things I need to learn. They also have a lot of general sewing, patterns and quilt patterns. The directions to make binding are here.

This one has a good picture on how to make continuous binding.

There is a lot more out there. Have fun.
