I have the Brother SQ9050 and love it. Got it at Walmart for under $200.00. It does basic sewing, and quilting and free motion quilting. Comes with 7 feet including the FMQ foot, 1/4" quilting foot. Does at least 7 different button hole styles. Has the extension table for quilting that I use ALL the time. A drop in bobbin, and needle threader! Plus it does small monogramming, and other decorative stitches.

Perhaps get with an experienced quilter to help in the decision process. Let her know what your needs are and then maybe she can offer some suggestions on basic features that have been most helpful to her. Then search for deals on machines with those features.

A friend of mine got this one from Walmart... and it even comes with an extension table and a walking foot for $160

It has suited her needs very well. So far the only problem she had was operator error. It was messing up in the bobbin area and it turns out she had giant dust bunnies under the bobbin... she didn't know you had to clean it out every so often. A kid's paint brush, a few pipe cleaners and it was sewing as good as new
