I dug out my copy of that issue just to see how it was made. Yes, paper pieced and the trick is to start each of the eight pieced wedges from the opposite end so the seams nest when you put them all together. Pretty smart idea. Directions (and yardage) are for both a 6" and a 9" block and it's rated as intermediate (skill level).

If you can find that lady that says it was in a quilter news letter ask her if she knows the year or number on the magazine as I have about 25 years of quilters news letters and I could look however I do not remember that exact pattern but somewhere in stacks and stacks of magazines I have one similar but it is appliqued and called house on a hill
