Have you tried a used office supplies/liquidation store? I got a great chair with lumbar support and they threw in a chair mat too for $25 from a company that closed recently. They upholstery was spotless! I got some lateral wooden file cabinets from a county agency auction for under $50 for two. At least the economy has helped a bit.

I had a good chair from Sams, desk chair with arms; it was really nice, and comfy........BUT then it broke.....you tend to lean forward a lot, when sewing, and it puts a strain on an chair that "rocks" (like desk, computer chairs)..........so you need to maybe think about a "stationary" chair, not one that rocks, when you shop for this. Right now, I have a straight back, non rocking one, but I find it a little bit too low........tried putting wheels on it, but that doesnt really work too well either. I think this is a real problem (at least, it has been for me)

I just bought a couple of these for my new sewing room. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details So far they are comfortable. They do say they are meant to be used on carpet and if you use them on hard flooring you must get different wheels. I have a different chair by my computer (ReStore for $25) that has slipped out from under two people. Ow! My tailbone hurt for a month. The other person wasn't hurt like I was.

www.gaiam.com balance ball chair, i worked @ wendys for 3 years, and sprained my tailbone filled out an accident report and went to the dr..blah blah...best thing was that summer we went on a houseboat for a week and we swam a lot.
anyway, it makes the difference for me to be able to sit and get up, as opposed to sitting on a regular chair, and not being able to get up as easily. have used these chairs for years. they strengthen the core muscles as well, worst thing about that is when one has a friend over, and you get to laughing hard, its rather difficult to stay on the ball...
