I have a hardwood floor in the room where my treadle machines live and vinyl tile in where my Horn quilters cabinet is.
Its a lot easier just to run the vacuum, no worries about pins in carpeting.

I've had both, and I prefer the carpet. It's easier to clean, and when pins fall, they stay there and don't shoot all over the floor. Also, my sewing chair doesn't roll all over on carpet, either. I think I'm the only person in the world who prefers carpet to hardwood!

I appreciate all the advice on why not to have carpet. I suspected that the pins would be a problem and you guys have affirmed that. I know there will be oak floor under the carpet since there is oak in the rest of the house. I just hope it is in fairly good shape.

My new sewing studio has a laminate floor that looks like wood, but is much easier to take care of. I love it. My old sewing studio had carpet and it was very hard to get the threads off of it. I am very happy with my laminate floor.
