Worth it or not. new blades here to buy are about $10 or more a blade.

I was thinking about getting one of this myself when I came across a different rotary blade sharpener. It is similiar to the blue hand sharpener, of which I've used for many years to extend the life of my blades.
It is called the TrueCut Power Sharpener. It can also be found at Connecting Threads. It is currently on sale. There was also a different posting for free shipping. I'm not sure if this applies to Aussie's though, if not I'm sorry. You may be able to have your local LQS carry these.
Here is a link to the item.

Item No. 81995
Sharpen your blades with the push of a button! Sharpens any brand blade, 28mm, 45mm,and 60mm, both sides sharpened at the same time no matter how dull.
Note: Cannot sharpen blades that have nicks in them. Blades not included.
5" x 3" x 3"sharpens blades: 28mm, 45mm, and 60mm
For blades with nicks in them, you can take a metal nail file and carefully try to smooth out the nick while in your rotary cutter.
I have not used this sharpener yet, but it would seem to work as the manual sharpener did.
Hope this is helpful to other quilters.

I noticed the one on BaySideQuilting is called "TrueSharp Power Sharpener". In the video it states it will remove nics. Wonder if it's the same or a different one?

I have the Orbitol Rotary Sharpener (retail $37 in Canada) which does a reasonable job if the blade is not nicked. I find the first sharpening is about 75% as good as new, a second 50% and I usually can get a third use out of it. This really extends the life of your blade and to be safe they should be sharp. I shudder when I see quilters literally sawing through fabric. One pass is all it should take. I have found that Tailorform blades (Symak Sales) or Komfort Kut (H.A. Kidd)sold for $2.99 at Lens Mills and once a year or so on sale (half price) stand up to sharpening quite well and fit my Olfa cutters. When I find a good sale, I buy a dozen!

I think the trick here IMHO is to use these sharpeners often, they are made to touch up a slightly dull blade, not put a new edge on one. Kind of like the sharpeners on an electric can opener  :D:D:D

Hi yes they do send to oz. i am talking to a lady in america that can buy them for me and send to australia. in a large amount cheaper even than we can buy from the company.
CoyoteQuilts is a member on here. she could probably send a heap to u too and you could share around your friends too.
