Split Steps Block

Split Steps Block
Just finished the squares. I like this layout. All from scrap/stash (still have a large pile). The blocks wil be 34 X 51 . I need to put a border on it, but I only have enough of the lightest fabric for that. (I do not like light borders, but might have to make an exception for this one).
Any border thoughts?

I don't like the proportions 4x6 blocks. 4x5 blocks looks better to me, also I don't have enough dark tan to bind the larger size. I will use the lite tan (white) for the backing. All from stash/scrap.
I am going to take a long arm class and will use this as one of my classroom projects.
I will post photos when it is finished.
Thanks for the idea and support.

Love your quilt layout. Just an idea...not neccessarily a good one...what about using a print for the borders? Maybe something that has some of the colors in it with a geometrical print. No matter what you decide it's sure to be a great finish!

Nativetexan - Just a guess here, but if you start off with a 4" square, add 1 1/2" strips all around, and for the second round sew on 4" strips, you should end up with a 13" block. Make another block with alternative colours, mark a line diagonally on one, place two together RSF and sew 1/4" either side of the line then cut down the middle. You should have close to 12.5" blocks. It's worth testing out with scraps first.
