starch?

Do you mean for quilting and patchwork? I use just the budget spray starch for my blocks from my local supermarket, and have had great results, it washes out ok, being an asthmatic I try not to use too much of it, just a little does the job for what I have needed.

I know how you feel. I too am sensitive to fagrances. I bought a cheap sprayer and dumped the ingredients because of the perfume. I cleaned it well (vinegar). Now I mix my own. Corn starch and water.

There are different ways to starch fabric and different starching components you can use.
Many people use spray starch purchased in the laundry section of the grocery store. However, I think all spray starch brands contain fragrance.
I use Sta-Flo liquid laundry starch diluted with water, but it also has a fragrance added to it.
If you are okay with cornstarch, here is a recipe for making your own spray starch:

Or, you might want to Google online for Mary Ellen's Best Press. This is a sizing spray that many people like, and it is available in a fragrance-free version. (Expensive, though, unless you buy it in bulk by the gallon.)
