Starting a quilting group

See if you can put up notices at your local banks, grocery stores, etc. Also if there is a radio station that announces community events for free. Do you have a meeting location all set up? Be sure to include that as well.
Best wishes! Been there, done that and my guild/group is now seven years old although very small.

I have been thinking the same thing...the guild group does not sew when they are together in my area....only twice a year when they go to a retreat....no class just all day sewing to me it seems expensive to sleep at a retreat for a weekend with no classes. I would lie to get together with a group once a week and sew and learn new things.

Try putting up/putting out flyers and meeting at your local library...
Our library will even promote the events (in the local newspaper and their monthly paper)that meet at their site...quilters, poetry, yarn arts, basketweavers, etc.
It's all about learning!...and not necessarily from books.

I started a Bee with invitations in our civic association newsletter and we began in my sewing room with 3 people. Now, 5 years later, we have 2 groups ( different days/times for day/ eve schedules) meet in the LQS classroom. It is free, but a win-win for us and LQS. We get to use their ironing boards, mats, etc and we reciprocate by patronizeing the LQS. It also brings life and laughter into the LQS. We frequently have shoppers wonder through to see what we are working on, and they are always invited to join. A person who started out to be a once-every-3- months shopper is now in the shop for 3 or 4 hours 2 or 3 times a month.
The people in each group are so helpful and supportive, we teach one another, and we have become best friends, for sure. Good luck! I'm sure you will be successful!
