Top Thread Breaking on Short Arm Quilt Machine
I am still learning all the idiosyncrasies of my machine and learned a good lesson last night. I had started quilting a new baby quilt on my short arm machine (Pfaff Grand Quilter) and it kept breaking the top thread. I finally realized that after the last lap quilt I had not lowered the rollers so the new quilt was sitting about 2 inches above the bed of the machine. Evidentally my machine does not like that. So I lowered the rollers to just above the bed and I haven't broken a thread since.
Hope this information will be of some use to some other frustrated quilter. Also, to prevent thread clusters under the quilt, make sure you LOWER THE PRESSER FOOT. [TABLE="width: 100%"]

OH can I cry with you,my machine is doing the same thing and then shredding the thread. Of course I am doing some intricate work and I changed the needles, bobbin, thread --no go. So then I decided that my top tension must be toast and now my machine is in sick bay. It is only about 20 so hope it can be revived. It is a great standby and I am so used to the " feel" of it I hate to change. Thanks for the info I would have not thought that the take up bar was too high< I will recheck that when I get my machine back from being serviced. Happy quilting !
