Unisex or baby boy?
Hi all, I'm making a quilt for my son's third grade teacher, who is having a baby in July. She doesn't know the sex of the baby so I was going for unisex, but now that I'm done piecing I'm starting to think this particular quilt top would be better for a baby boy. I chose the main print because this mom likes turtles, but there are really a lot more frogs than turtles on the print and frogs really seem more like a baby boy thing. What do you all think?

I have to agree - in fact as soon as I saw it, I thought of the 'Frogs and Snails' rhyme...............
If it's for after the 'event' you could make one for a girl, then you have both bases covered, lol.
If it's for a shower, how about bright, primary colours that will 'grow' with the child? Happy quilting

Add a blue and white flower border and magically its a little girlie!
I thought I was having a baby at the start if this year -- quilting's kind of been my therapy for it -- and all the stuff I bought was unisex and green and most of it did come from the boys section. It's really just the nature of kids marketing today. If it isn't pink and lacey it goes to the boys. If she's going unisex she's used to this and has excepted it.
So what I'm saying is I wouldn't worry too much about the boyish thing. It's to be expected.

Another idea -- what if you made it reversible? You could do a similar stripe on the back but adjust it to look a little more girlie. If you focused more on the big pokadot print and less on the brown pokadot it wouldn't read as masculine. You could also add in a floral if you were really worried about it.
