Using an iPad for quilting
#51
I think I am missing something here...I have a laptop PC with broadband mobile so I am on-line all the time (except in the Bershires of western MA where there is no telephone service!) with EQ7, all my photos of quilts and shows and ideas and patterns, all jpg's and pdf's, plus all my bookmarks and links to sites like the quilting board. I hook up my camera to the PC and download photos. I scan fabrics to the PC, tweak color in photoshop, and file in EQ7. I watch utube videos and search for patterns, shop for fabrics, and all that. I even tear myself away from it and do quilting. LOL!!!
I think I must be missing something with this ipad/ereader/tablet thing but I don't know what it is. Bringing the device to the LQS?
If I get one will it talk to my PC?
Appreciate your thoughts on this folks....
thanks

I have a small iPod touch that I use to read my Quilting Arts pdfs, read this site early in the morning, I play games and read books too. I got mine when I was pregnant because my work bag was too heavy and my husband didn't want me to take my heavy books to work and back and I refused to not be able to read during the time that I'm sitting on transit.
I love how light it is to hold and how I can have over 100 different books and magizines at my fingertips at one time.

I have the first iPad. The newer models are lighter in weight. I use iBook to store my PDFs. It was a free app. I read the quiltboard and facebook. I play games, read email and do ancestry.com. I
watch you tube videos with earbuds while dh watches black and white airplane movies. He thinks I'm watching them with him.

In fact I hardly every sue my laptop - that might be going soon too!
Oh and it is easy to prop the iPad up next to my sewing maching or cutting board and following a pattern. No more paper!

I use my mobile and iPad to store books, patterns and anything to do with quilting. Out and about I am not able to connect with Internet but I take my iPad to classes to follow patterns. I store free patterns on a Peggy thing which I stick in machine. (Sorry learnt to use computer but never was told correct names).
I do have a few apps on my mobile phone. But as I live in a poor reception area it does't work all the time. I do store kindle patchwork books . I have found that if I use my main computer and size the templates I can print off very easily no tracing.

For Android users there's Stitcher's Helper, Floss Checklist and one other that I can't remember the name of. Just check out opeware and see what else you find.
I love my stitcher's helper and floss checklist. The checklist has other threads besides DMC, Anchor. It has Sulky and Gueterman (sp) as well.
Good luck!
