Walking Foot & decorative stitches
#1
I have a Bernina QE153 and am using the walking foot for the first time today. Will it work with stitches other than just straight as long as the lower plates are the right ones? I'm thinking about using it instead of hand stitching my binding down on some charity childrens' quilts. Thanks for any help.

Yes, as long as the stitches are not wider than your opening in your foot.
I use mine all of the time for this :D:D:D
Hint: use a more open design, elongate the stitch a little too

I have a 153 QE and the only caution on the instruction sheet for the walking foot is that the maximum stitch length (not width) for reverse stitches is 3. The opening in the foot, both soles, is pretty wide so I would test the stitching on a scrap with a regular foot using the stitch width you want and then make sure it fits within the walking foot opening.
