Walmart and Fabric
#1
For over a year now we have watched the fabric depts leave our local Walmart stores. And we all complained and evidently some of us complained to the right people. In the rural areas where there are no big fabric stores like Joanns or Hancocks the Walmarts may be bringing it back. Our little local Walmart in Patrick Co, VA had a very small fabric dept so I had not been up there for probably a year and Sunday we were close and needed a bag of dog food. I thought I would 'cruise' through the fabrics just to see if they were still there. WOOOOOOW!!! After about an hour and 62 yards later I was going out with quilters cottons and the most expensive was $2.50 per yard. In addition they had already expanded the dept and was expanding it again. Killer nice cottons, upholstry and the slinky knit polyesters were gorgeous. The checkout girl said it would probably be a while before I would be back and 'hubby' just rolled his eyes  and smiled. I am in love again with Walmart. The fabric clerk said that Walmart had done some rethinking and if sales showed a need - which means if they sold enough and we raised enough cane they would keep the dept. Something worked somewhere because there are 3 Walmarts ( they are approximatly 60 miles apart ) that are currently expanding their fabric depts. They are also have specials like a BOM and the fabrics used in the example are on special sale. So everyone band together :XD: Raise your voices and let Walmart know that we need them. Esepecially in the rural areas. Personally if it wasn't for the fabric and the dog food I probably wouldn't go in a Walmart but now I am looking at it with a whole new respect.

That's great! Our fabric department has been reduced in size at least twice and according to the store, it will be removed next year. We shall see. Our fabrics have one up to $6 a yard. At that price, I can get it for less at Joann's with a coupon and have a better selection. I still browse when I go, but I don't buy much anymore. Actually, I don't recall seeing too many people buying fabric since they raised the prices. We have a Hobby Lobby almost across the street with a similar sized fabric department.
I am glad to hear they are bringing back fabric, though!

I have my fingers crossed for everyone. I 'raved' about my 'find' to my poor hubby until he went to sleep in the recliner. I think it is something wrong with us folks who get so excited over a little fabric. LOL!
