Today I purchased the pattern for the wedding quilt that morelcabin designed on Craftsy, and also purchased the pattern "Triangle Maze", a really neat looking pattern, with not a lot of pattern per se in it. You might go to Craftsy and search for that pattern. It could be for male or any age I personally think.

Pick a pattern you like. He will love it! Something like an Irish Chain is a simple pattern with lots of open space for some fun quilting or go completely scrappy with your materials. There is a fabulous pattern called 'Diamonds are Forever' which can be found in American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine; issue April 2004. This is a beautiful scrappy quilt that has a pattern but it is very subtle diamonds that you have to look for. Take a look. It is shown in fall colors but would work in any colorway.

Here is a photo of the Diamonds are Forever quilt pattern. It works up great in any color way.
I love the fabric you showed and I think this pattern would be beautiful in those colors. I may have to make another one! This picture is not the one I made. I don't have a picture of mine.

Maybe if he looked at some pictures of green art quilts he could pin down what appeals to him.

I had fun making my DGS a Scattered D9P. The pattern doesn't really show because after you cut the 9P into quarters, you toss them all into a bag or box and then pull them out and resew them into blocks randomly.
You can find it in photos under Seasonal Greens.

Did you check out some modern quilts - look at Elizabeth Hartman's blog - she does a lot of modern quilts - also there is a book called "Geared for Guys" that has quilts for men - they are really nice and not like patchwork. Good luck.

I'm seeing something like outside of the box, argyle diamonds, or labyrinth...I can't remember the name but its the one that looks 3D. Those art quilts are amazing, but I'm thinking outside of my expertise!
