What do you do with old rulers when they are replaced?
While reading various threads, blogs, and websites I keep seeing how quilters are replacing their rulers with new and improved styles. What do you do with your old ones? I like the idea of the non-slip rulers and unfortunately I was not aware of them before I started buying mine. I have mostly Omnigrid and I am basicly happy with them but I have read about Quilters Select and Olfa and how nice they are.

You can give them to a quilter that is just starting out. I received a bagful from a friend who was downsizing when I was just in the early days of my quilting hobby. There were sizes and shapes I would not necessarily have bought for myself, but once exposed to them learned the benefits of them. I also got some bloc locs and half geese ruler that I would have NEVER known existed. It was a generous gift and it really helped me :-)

If they are still "good" - by that I mean, they are accurate and the edges are still straight - I just keep them. I tend to misplace things, so duplicates are good to have.
If the edges are bowed from use, I discard them. In the trash. I will not knowingly give something "bad" to someone - especially someone just starting out.

I keep on using mine. I think some of the newer ones might be nice but there are too expensive for no more improvement than most of them give. I would not give rulers that I have problems using effectively to someone who is just starting out because they don't need to deal with stuff that can be avoided. Too many rulers have limited use which adds lots of cost to the cost of a quilt if you only use it once.

I use Omni Grid rulers and like them so feel no need to buy others. My BFF uses them too and bought this spray for the back of her rulers - https://www.walmart.com/ip/404-Spray...0spray&veh=sem
I tried it on one of my rulers and it does work but you need to really give it a light spray.

I recently bought some Quilters Select and they are fabulous. But I keep my others because I'm always misplacing things. I think there's a big hole somewhere in my sewing room!
I also bought the Quilters Select Mat and that's nice too. It came as a set. I need another mat like I need another hole in my head but I do love it.
