If you are doing several different designs on a quilt while FMSing, do you tie off at each design end and then start up again in the next area? In other words, if you are doing tiny circles around one area, but run out of room and need to move to another area, do you tie off and start again?
Hope this makes sense...:)

machine quilting?
assuming so-
it depends on the quilting- if you are stopping, and restarting somewhere else- you need to cut your threads, and start again somewhere else- i don't (tie off) i bring the bobbin thread to the top at the beginning- take 2-3 stitches in place, start quilting- when i pause somewhere i clip the threads -
when i have to stop somewhere i again bring the bobbin thread to the top take a few small stitches and clip the threads-
i try to do (continuous line) quilting as much as possible...meaning i don't stop and start unless i absolutely have to

I did FMQ circles inside the open spine of feathers. had to start and stop there. i take tiny stitches almost in place, clip thread and continue on. then when at the end, i take tiny stitches and clip. then move to another area and start over. sometimes in feathers i could just continue stitching into the next open area for the circles. all depends.
