I love using layer cakes! So much fun!
Here is a pattern using one layer cake for two projects.

Here is one of mine using the Pam and Nicky Lintott book -http://www.flickr.com/photos/4256623...7623073813393/
Someone recently (earlier this year) did a QAL with a layer cake for pinwheels
Here is mine (not finished yet) - http://alimaui.blogspot.com/2010/09/...-progress.html
Here is the group pool (I drool over these hand hope mine looks half as good when I finish) - http://www.flickr.com/groups/pinwhee...uiltalong/pool
Here is the moda bake shop recipes using LC's

It's an excellent pattern - the offcuts from the half hexagons are used up in the border strips, so there was no waste. There are several other good ones in the book too.

I just posted a picture today of one I just pieced (Hexagon Hip Hop) - you beat me to it with the link Omak!

you know, i happened to see that right after i posted my quest!
i like that first top, although it looks like you slice/dice quite a bit! the hex top just isn't my "speed", although i do like your color combinations!
