i use my fabric to the best advantage, cutting wof when necessary and lof when possible. how ever i'm going to achieve my desired effect with the least amount of waste. there are no stead-fast rules. it is your fabric to do with as you choose, making what you choose. the way you get there is also your choice...no one looking at your quilt is going to know how you cut your fabric :thumbup:

It depends. If I'm making borders and blocks of the same fabric, I usually get enough to do the borders without piecing. Then I cut the blocks from the rest. This does require some planning to be sure you've got enough fabric. The bonus of this is that the borders will be less stretchy. If I don't have any specific use for the rest of the fabric, I'll measure it out both ways and see which way leaves me the best piece leftover.
