yo yos
I am making a yo yo lap quilt with the FLAT side facing up and a backing to cover the scrunched side of the yo yos. There is no batting and so no quilting is necessary. My question is how to attach the yo yos to the backing after they are all joined together so that they stay in place? Also, what is the "correct" size for such a lap quilt? Thanks in advance for helping me. Phyllis Carol

There generally is no backing with yoyo's . I made a queen size bed cover & it was fine . You just stitch yoyo's together on all 4 sides & thats it . the flat side goes down on bed , so pretty side shows.4x 5 would be good size.

Here is one I made. I didn't put a backing on it. I stitched each yo yo together in four places and it does add warmth since they are stitched closely together. It has a nice "weight" to it too.

I did a yo yo lap quilt a couple of years ago....with a light weight first backing - mine were scrunchy side out - but it doesn't matter. I didn't hook my yo yos together first - i actually used a glue stick to hold them in place on the backing - then blind stitched them to the backing and eachother at each spot that one yo yo touched another. After i was done - i did put another backing on to hide my stitches - which weren't very pretty from the back --- then used the "birthing method" - and knotted to hold the 2 layers together - with the knot ties on the wrong side. That was my 'figure it out as you go' method - but it worked well.

Thanks for your response. The problem is that I am NOT using the yo yo side up because I have not made the turn under on the yo yo. Therefore, there is a raw edge and I must use the flat side showing. That is the reason for needing a backing. I hope this makes sense to you and maybe you can direct me further.

Just for clarification .... The method i discribed doesn't matter if yo yo is gathered side up or gathered side down......
