"Cubic Yard" (Easy-Peezy FMQ) DONE!
#1
I just finished this one this morning. :-) You may have seen my earlier post of the top before it was quilted here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-124114-1.htm The color in that picture is closer, but I wanted this post to show the FMQ so I adjusted them for that purpose. Hope they are clear enough to see easily.
The freemotion quilting I did on this one was easy enough that even if you are a beginner, you might want to give it a try...
First I stitched in the ditch around the hexagons, then I did some simple arcs and "s" curves in the black to flatten it a bit and make the cubes stand out.
I plan to put some "pockets" on the back so that it can be hung on the wall.
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out; here are the results.

Here's a closeup of the "s" curves while I was quilting it.

I quilted gentle "s" curves between the outside of the hexagons and the border and added a swirl here and there for interest.

I like the way the cubes appear to "float" :-)

In some of the narrower black strips, I just did arcs.

I think you can see the "s" curves around the hexagons in this picture.
