Feeling so Blessed today. Long, w/ lots of pictures
#1
I made my Granny an Irish Chain Quilt. I can't explain it, but I feel like this quilt was just meant to be made for her...I'm sure you understand. When I was pressing the fabric, it SMELLED like her house. The entire construction of this quilt reminded me of my Granny. Every stitch was made thinking of her. I wanted it finished for today, because today we were having lunch, Granny, my Mom, my children and myself. Granny had bags and bags of fabric, crochet cotton, and yarn that she wanted to give us that she had inherited from my Great Grandmother. Today, there were four generations in my Granny's house in person...the fifth was there too...if only in the spirit of her crafting love.
Granny doesn't quilt, neither does my mom. I just decided I wanted to do it one day and an addiction was born ;) . My Great Grandmother passed away just a couple of years before I was born. I never had the chance to know her, though my mom told me about her, and how she taught my mom to knit and crochet. What I didn't know was that my Great Grandmother was a quilter - a Jane of all trades, she quilted, crocheted, knitted, she did applique and cross stitching. She made quilts and clothing. Today, I was given her fabric...some of her patterns, a couple of unfinished projects...fabrics ranged from cotton to poly (lots of poly, she passed in the early 80's) to satins and everything in between. I haven't even had a chance to go through all of it yet. My whole trunk of my car was packed! Anyhow, here are pics of the more quilt related items...I didn't take pictures of *everything*...but I knew all of you would be interested in seeing this!
Oh, and my Grandmother LOVED her quilt. She immediately put it on the back of her couch. I hope she gets a lot of use out of it. My grandmother is a farmer. My grandfather passed away almost a year ago and she, at 78, is still running and working on the farm without him. I told her when I gave her the quilt "I know you don't often get or take the chance to snuggle up and just BE. I hope this reminds you to do just that every now and again - snuggle up and just BE" She cried, gave me a hug and promised to do just that.
