That's an Amish Dahlia. The puffy parts are pieced into it making kind of a 3-D effect.. here's another example. http://www.amishcountrylanes.com/Pages/hs1895.shtml. If you look at the close up you'll see the gathered "petals".

I beleive it is the Amish Dahlia. the gathers are intended but not the points cut off. I love this pattern and I just bought a top from an Amish sale this summer.

The Lemoyne Star is what it looks like to me and useing a stack n' whack methos or fussy cutting. It also looks like they might have maybe stuffed it a little to give it that 3d effect but i am a newbie so don't know much
