I've never posted any pictures before, so I hope this goes well.
This is a pattern I recently drafted. It's a quilt for my mother. She selected her favorite design from one of my quilt books, and I used the picture as inspiration for this pattern. She also picked the fabric. I am using the paper piecing technique to hopefully pull this off.
The radius of the circle is 20" (diameter 40 inches). Pretty darn big! I personally think this pattern is really challenging. Anyway, the photos are the early stages of the project.

Oh my giddy aunt! Where do you get such patience? And all paper pieced! Your Mum is one lucky lady! Love the colours, how long do you expect this to take you and will you hand or machine quilt? I look forward to seeing your up dates.
I am new to quilting and am astounded at the talent I see on this board!
Go Kiwiquilter!

In terms of effort - it should take me about another 10 full days to complete the piecing. I work full time and have to juggle in between other commitments so - this will take about 3 months all up to have the piecing done.
It will then be hand quilted.
My mother isn't "crafty" but does understand the effort involved, and will appreciate it when its finished. It will be 60" when finished, and I'm hoping she will use it for either a bed topper or over the back of the couch.
I'm doing this project as a huge thank-you, for her coming down to look after me after emergency surgery. At short notice she took time off work, and drove 7 hours to be with me. She looked after my every need; cooking, cleaning, shopping, dishes, chauferring, etc... I had post op complications and infections, and it took about 2 weeks before I was able to stand long enough to make my own meals again.
Anyway that's just a bit of background to explain why I'm putting so much time into it.
