My First Commissioned Quilt, and Thank You
I was asked to make a quilt to be displayed in the lobby of a friend's business. I had my discretion to decide on a theme and colors. Since my friend has a black, gray, and white lobby, I told him I would make him 'my take on a rainbow'. He said that would be great. It has taken me over a year to get it done because I had to come up with a design for a rainbow, and make my own pattern, because I could not find anything that said "rainbow" to me. I finally settled on a medallion quilt, so here it is. {I had to redo a few of the appliques, because someone walked into my home, during a BBQ, and made several small cuts in it!} The first picture is the center that shows the colors best, and the other is the full quilt minus the solid black binding. (I an using black Kona cotton for the binding to hopefully avoid bleeding. I did pre-wash it first, then 'set' the color with a vinegar rinse. The areas that read as solid are actually salt dyed by a friend. The third picture is the back. I chose red because that is the only rainbow color not on the front, and then quilted the entire thing with black thread. This is my first 'free motion quilted' quilt, so I want to thank all of you who have inspired me, but especially Charisma who gave me encouragement to begin teaching myself to machine quilt. Thank you all!
