Quilts with doilies
#61
These doily quilts are just beautiful - "everything old is new again" must be your motto. Love the embroidery-saved quilt also - It's so nice to see all that "older" handiwork respected and repurposed! Now I have to look at the rest of the thread and see what else you've shown us!

I especially like the red one! It really shows off those doilies. I have a question--surely you can't cut the doilies or they would unravel?? Or do they stay once sewn into a seam. Or do you just leave the doily as is and it is underneath the piece next to it? Wonderful way to showcase these handmade items that were used more frequently in previous generations! Thank you for sharing.

Hi, I do glue them down lightly using a glue stick, the kind thy used in classrooms. I first center the doilie on the fabric then I fold it in half, lightly rub the glue stick on the edges as well as a few other spots, especially the areas I will be sewing. I place that part back then fold the other side...I don`t use a lot of glue. After I sew the edges and other areas I want, I turn it upside down and I iron the backside just to make sure the glue is dry.
