I asked a contractor I knew if he was interested in a trade. A homemade quilt, for painting and installing cabinets. He said yes. I asked what he wanted and was told 'blue with no flowers, and lots of scraps, like the one he had as a kid, with knots". Great, Challenged myself, using only stash, make this 'guy' quilt. I made the quilt. He 'changed his mind' by phone, having never seen the quilt. I was grousing about it, where the neighbor could overhear (oops!). He came and asked to see the quilt. I showed it to him and he loved it. That was Friday. *Update- Neighbor put up cabinets, and DH is painting. By next weekend, I will never have to see olive green walls ever again. (Last owner leftover) Things happen as they are meant to.
This is the winner for ugly quilt. Neighbor left with silly grin on his face. Glad it will be loved.
* should have said bathroom 'mirror cabinets', and paint powder room.

This is the finished quilt. I used every bit of 'not flowered' fabric I had. Flannel backing was dyed to match.

I tied it with deep blue floss.

well, that contractor made a big mistake for not doing the trade, but with his attitude, I'd say you are lucky he changed his mind. He probably wouldn't have done a good job for you anyway....
Now, your neighbor has a beautiful quilt and you have a beautiful kitchen... win win
