Mineral spirits might take off the decals. Go to the tutorial section and read all of Billy's tuts on cleaning and restoration. He can also help with the wiring and knee pedal.
I thought I could figure out how to restore my old machine, then read Billy's tuts and realized that sewing machines are different than other machines and I didn't know anything. LOL

I just restored my moms 1948 singer. Found this product called TR3.... it's an automotive cleaner/polisher/resin. Did a fabulous job removing 25 years of neglect, smoke and uck....... have fun!
TR3 was reccommended by "Treadleon", which was reccommended by Singer
