UFO Challenge of the Month 2012
#1652
I am having an extremely productive weekend. I am kind of on a quilt retreat. Dear friends of ours who live just a few kms away are gone for a couple of weeks. However, they have animals that need to be cared for so I packed up my sewing machine, picked 3 ufos and 2 new projects, my cross stitch project and a few books...and headed on over. (we have 2 daughters, they are taking turns who stays over with me each night and who stays with dad...for some reason though my supper making duties followed me as everyone winds up here for supper...I may have to travel further to avoid the supper duties).
Anyway, back to the sewing. Wahoo! I told myself I absolutely could not start something new unless...I worked on a UFO. So I pulled out my Border Creek Station mystery quilt from 2 years ago and set to work. I finished it about mid-day yesterday. I don't have any batting for it yet, but I sewed up the backing fabric and even made the binding so there is no excuse not to get the quilting done once I get the batting! I'm so glad this quilt is done, it isn't my style at all and that's what has kept me from finishing it I think. I had chosen to use the recommended fabrics (kitted up by our local quilt shop) and now that I see it, I wish I had chosen my own.
I learned my lesson though as one of the other UFO projects I brought with me is this years Border Creek Station mystery quilt and I chose my own fabrics for that. Oh wouldn't it be great if I managed to finish that one too?
Anyway, as I completed a UFO I rewarded myself and pulled out a pack of fat quarters I picked up last week and am making a quick top with those. Something old, something new. Something red (new), something blue (UFO).
And the weekend isn't over yet!
