Looking for poppy seed cake recipe
My Mom made an awesome poppy seed cake -
If I remember correctly, it was three layers - it had a custard filling between the layers and a white fluffy sort of frosting.
She did not make it very often because it had more steps to it than her usual baking - but it was wonderful!

No recipe here, but you have my attention, as I have always loved poppy-seed-anything!
Especially Lemon Poppyseed Loaf and Muffins.
So, I too, hope that someone comes back with the recipe for you (and me!)!

I was looking for cake recipes this am and came across two, nice poppy seed cake ideas. Neither are classic cakes. One is an almond poppy seed tea cake recipe that looked good: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/al...eed-tea-cakes/ And another was for lemon poppy seed doughnuts:https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/gl...y-seed-donuts/ . Both are on Sally's Baking Addiction site. She might have some other poppy seed recipes on there, so have a look.

I subscribe to "Life Love & Sugar". Recently this recipe arrived in my mailbox. https://www.lifeloveandsugar.com/recipes/ It is for a Lemon PoppySeed Cake. I have not made this one but will.

I love that cake. Here is a recipe from an old church cookbook. This was a staple at family gatherings when I was young.
3/4 c poppy seed
1 c milk
1 1/2 c sugar
2/3 c butter
2 c sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
4 egg whites - stiffly beaten
soak seeds in milk 1 hour or overnight. Cream sugar and butter. Add seeds
amd milk. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla. Fold in egg whites.
Pour into 2 8in greased pans
bake 350 Degrees for 20 min
Filling
1 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp cornstarch
1 c milk
4 egg yolks - beaten
3/4 c chopped nuts
combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Blend in milk. Cook over low heat stirring constantly until comes to boil. Add small amount to egg yolks, return to pan. Cook gently until thick and smooth. Remove from heat and add nuts. Allow to cool before spreading on cake.
