Maple Nut Squares - bar cookie
I took this recipe
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/blonde-...es/detail.aspx
And doubled it, but used less sugar and more flour. And added maple flavoring instead of vanilla.
so here it is
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), melted
1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 egg
2 teaspoon maple extract
2 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts
In a mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, egg and extract. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to sugar mixture and mix well. fold in nuts.
Spread in a greased 9 x 13. baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into squares.
If you follow the original recipe on the website, they are almost TOO good - very sweet and candy- like. The modified recipe, they are more like a cake and have a chance of making it into the cookie jar instead of being eaten right from the pan!!
