Date Loaf: 2 cups sugar, 1 cup cream, 1 cup chopped dates, 1 cup chopped nuts.
Combine suagar and cream and cook to soft ball stage. remove from fire and add dates, beat until mostly dissolved. Add nuts and beat until it loses it's gloss. Pour into a damp cloth placed in long baking dish. roll the candy in gloth and form it into a long log. Let cool. Store by wrapping in plastic wrap and the with foil.
Fudge: 2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup cream, 1/2 cup white karo , 1/2 cup cocoa powder, lump of butter size of walnut, 1 teaspoon vanilla.

That sounds like the date candy my friend used to make. I have tried making it a few times but always have trouble getting it right. It's either too sugary/grainy or it never sets and you need a spoon to eat it. Maybe I will try your recipe. Thanks.

Make sure you use pure cane sugar. I use a heavy whipping cream to insted of just cream or canned milk. The recipe came from my grandmother and handed down . I am 79 so you see it is old.
