take any basic muffin recipe and put 1/2 the sugar called for. then to the batter you could add whatever herbs you like. basil or rosemary, onion powder or even some shredded cheddar cheese.

Here is a recipe for:
Cheddar Cheese and Mustard Muffins
2 cups minus 2 Tbls sifted all purpose flour
1 Tbls baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1-1/2 cups finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 large egg
2 Tlbs Dijon mustard
1 cup sour cream (I use low-fat)
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup milk (add a bit more if necesary)
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Add cheese, and blend well to combine ingredients well.
In a small bowl, beat together the egg and mustard. Add the sour cream, melted butter, and milk. Mix well . Fold the sour cream mixture gently into the flour mixture just until dry ingredients are moistened(do not over mix). Fill 12 greased muffin tins (or use paper liners). Bake 20-25 minutes or until done. Cool slightly. Serve warm.
