Smoothies
Looking for a recipe to make smoothies with milk and or yogurt and fruit. Or
I guess anything good. Not sure what all to put in one. Right now don't have
a whole lot of ingredients but still would like to know what to put in them.

I add bananas, strawberries, blueberries and vanilla plus 2 cups of ice. Another one I love with your ingredients is oj, carrots and cooked sweet potatoes plus cinnamon and nutmeg. There is a great book called The Big Book of Juices by Natalie Savona. Also, google juice recipes and you will find lots.

I prefer the smoothies to be more like a milkshake. I put the yogurt (whatever amount you want) into the
blender. Then add whatever fruit (fresh, frozen, canned) you want. If you are using plain yogurt, add sugar or sweetener and vanilla to taste. Sometimes I add nutmeg or cinnamon before blending until the desired consistency is reached. It's all a matter of mix and taste to find what you like.

1 over-ripe banana (When bananas get too ripe, I peel them, put them in a zip-lock bag and freeze them. When I make a smoothie, I microwave the banana for about 30 seconds before putting it in the blender.)
1 cup yogurt (I usually use vanilla)
about 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
1 cup frozen berries (We get a large bag of them at Costco.)
Blend till smooth. It's pretty thick depending on how much milk you add.
This makes enough for 2, so if it's just for yourself, you can easly 1/2 the ingredients.

My kids' favorite recipe:
handful of frozen strawberries (don't have to add ice, water it down)
one kid likes frozen blueberries, one doesn't
one ripe banana (sweetens it! add a little honey if you're out of banana)
big dollup of plain greek yogurt
milk and/or oj, whatever we have on hand
sometimes we add raw spinach - turns it green, boys call it a "sewer smoothie"

yogurt or cold almond milk, applesauce, blueberries, strawberries or cherries, an avocado, bananas, chocolate and some almond or peanut butter for extra protein - you do not taste the avocado but it makes the smoothie very creamy - if I want it colder I throw in a frozen banana - my Ninja does ok chopping frozen stuff. I have gotten avocado on sale, blended them in with some applesauce then frozen the mix - use the cubes when wanted.

I use one cup of low-fat chocolate milk, 2 bananas which I peeled, broke into pieces and froze, and ice. Then, blend til smooth. It comes out really thick, almost like a "real" milk shake, and is so delicious I have to up the quantity of ingredients because DH always wants some. Oh, yeah, I may also add some cinnamon to the mixture because I love chocolate and cinnamon and I learned from Christine on a food channel that cinnamon makes the chocolate taste more chocolate-y.

It is a good idea to peel the banana before making a smoothie - peel the avocado and take the pit out, too... I know vitamix says you use peels and seeds and stems and stuff - not my idea of a smoothie though...
