185J foot pedal making funny noises
Hi all you knowledgeable people who know how to fix things. My 185J foot pedal has started making popping sounds even when I don't put pressure on it. I am sure that somewhere on here there is a thread about how to rewire it and other things. Thanks for any leads. It is my favorite piecing machine next to my Featherweight. Sue would love to get it back into running order.

Kitsy,
Unplug it and keep it unplugged. It sounds to me like the pedal is shorting out inside. They aren't too hard to take apart and check, but I wouldn't use it until it is.
When you take it apart, look for burned places on the ceramic or the wires ( depends on which design you have ) Lots of lint and other things can cause shorts too. Loose wires, broken or burned wires are also something to check for.

Yes, unplug it until you can fix it. I had one rockin hot once and it started making noise. I posted on my site about it, but Dave's site (above) breaks it down really simply.

I had a foot pedal doing the same thing on a used Necchi that I purchased. We took it apart and I cleaned the disks (lots of them). When we put it back together it didn't make the noise. However, I did read that it is normal to make some popping noise. I found the directions for cleaning on the internet.
