Anyone know of a source - needles for a circa 1895 Phaff Model B?
I couldn't help it, bought this beautiful machine on Ebay. It works very smoothly, but came with only one needle, which is very long and thin, so I sure would like to have more. The ISMACS needle list indicates a European size 439 is required, but I can find no information on that size of needle.

Try calling Budd Sewing & Vacuum Center in Fresno, CA. 559-441-1000 and ask for Ken or Roy. They have a little bit of everything and have been in business forever! Roy started working for Ken's dad after WWII I think and is still there a few days a week...he's 94! They don't have a website. Tell Ken the lady that came in on Saturday to drool over his old machines sent ya.

"Thereupon turn the needle-bar downwards until the notch upon the needle-bar is in a line with the upper surface of the head plate, loosen the needle-clamp and so fix the needle that the eye of the needle shall be level with the upper surface of the stitch plate. Having finally ascertained that the eye stands true and straight, tighten the needle-clamp-screw again."
I have been able to sew, but the stitch tension is horrible. I'm sure it's the shuttle and need time to work on it.
Any helpful suggestions?

Yes I have the instructions, but the thread doesn't come out of the shuttle easily, even after I loosen the tiny screw as much as I dare to. Maybe tonight I'll try a different type of thread - poly or rayon rather than cotton.
