actually, at the yahoo 'vintage japanese sewing machine' group we make an effort to do this- it often is the only way to get an idea about factories et cetera. That is how I know that my 'Capri' was made by Mr. Toyoda. Maybe not he himself, but you get the idea.

Mercury Electric Dial-o-Matic
Mercury Electric Dial-o-Matic sewing machine. Model R 3L, TA 133996. This machine has a Morse motor, 1/4 HP, 1.2 Amps, 115 V. The serial number and manufacture number is embossed on the lip of the bed.

Wizard Sewing Machine, Model 40
Precision Deluxe Built, manufactured by Brother, no JA number on this one, serial number 67994 is embossed on the bed lip. The motor is made by Sovereign, 1/15 HP, 1.2 Amp, 115 V.

Gosh, I would love to have a blue Wizard like that one! Hubs' nickname in the Navy was "Mr. Wizard" and c/s was "Wizard"
