Help with my featherweight
I bought a 221K featherweight off of ebay and on the outside it looks almost brand new but when I go to sew it will sew but then it stops and the belt just spins. I've oiled it everywhere it said to. Should I send it back or get a local repair shop to look at it? Has anyone had this happen?

lizzieann,
Remove the bobbin case and look very carefully at and around and behind the bobbin drive. Any piece of thread jammed in there will stop a Featherweight.
Remove the face plate too and check there for thread wrapped around things, and .... well check everywhere. I have found thread wrapped in places you'd scratch your head in amazement wondering how it got there.
Here is a link to instructions on how to clear such a thread if you find one:
{ http://thefeatherweight221factory.com/page10.php }
Look at the bottom left corner of the page where it says Thread or Machine Jam.

Congratulations on your new FW. Do you know how old she is? What's her name? Or hasn't she told it to you yet. If you do name her and she doesn't like the name, she will 'talk' to you and tell you what her name is.
Did you get a certificate on her yet? Go to mysingerstory.com
where you can put in your name, her serial number and get a printable certificate stating that (your name) owns (serial number) machine made in ( year). It is a nice certificate to have. I have one for each of my Singers, except for the celery (white) featherweight that starts with an EY. I'm told that they don't have the listing for those serial numbers because of a fire. But, look at all the serial numbers that they do have!!! WOW!!! We are so lucky that they kept such good records!
