I need help with my singer model 101
Hey all,
On My Hubby and I's trip back home to Mich, we found my 101 at a dump and rescued her.
I've been trying to find out what is wrong with her, the power cord isn't in the best shape but the light runs off of it. When I turn the wheel, it sews like it's supposed to.
I took the bed cover off and saw some wires that looks like they were cut, but I don't see where they would go to so I was thinking maybe they are supposed to be like that?
I wish I could afford to take her in to get fixed, but at the moment I can't so I'm trying to do it on my own.
I took the motor cover off and the brushes? turn. the center part.
when its plugged in nothing makes any sounds or moves.
I tried moving the knee bar too but nothing happened.
I've never done anything with old machines before, never took a newer one apart at all either.
But I'll try to post some pics of it with the cover off.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

startella18,
As a guess, based on their strategic location, I'd say those four "wires" are not wires at all, but wicks to distribute oil to the moving parts under them.
Like I said it's a guess as I've never seen a 101 in person.
The motor wires should be on the right end of the machine with the power and controller wire. Most likely a broken wire somewhere in the system.

These are for the oil it is the wicking that distributs the oil... the motor is on the back of the machine ,, the foot petal ,is probly whats wrong with the machine my foot petal was what was wrong w/ mine ,, could be the foot pedal burned out be very careful w/ this it could catch fire ,, look at the right side of machine the foot pedal ,,the wiring that goes to the white box is the ones to disconect and put on a new or reconditioned foot pedal. i will post photo tomorrow if i can, i need to do this anyway..i have had lots of people wanting pictures ,, I love my machine Dottie Bug

I don't have foot petal, just the knee thing. Do I need one?
But I dont think I saw anywhere a pedal wire would plug into, or am I misunderstanding you?
Also I want to get her cleaned up, what should I use?
Is there anything I shouldn't clean? Thank you all for the help!!

Ok update,
I got to poking around the power plug thing, and I'm pretty sure I found a broken wire. It's not like the other ones lol.
Now the question is how do I fix it, or is that something I have to take it in for?
Also how do you get the power box off? I took the two long screws out but it still doesn't seem to want to move.

My 101 came in a cabinet with a knee controller mounted to the inside of the cabinet. However, prior to my purchase the electrical wires had been cut to remove the machine head from the cabinet. I decided to take the sewing machine to my OSMG to re-wire. But there is no reason why your machine could not be re-wired to use a foot controller. The 101 is a very nice sewing machine. I use mine all the time.
