I thought my wife was gonna cry ..................
We were running errands today when my wife saw a guy holding a sign beside the road. She wasn't sure but she thought it said: "Hancock Fabric Closing". We made a couple stops then we saw a second guy with a sign and it did say: "Hancock Fabric Closing". So, since she was driving I grabbed the chicken bar and held on tight as she did a bat turn into the mall.
Inside we found that the vultures .......... ah 'er people looking for bargains, had really raided the place. Still we found some variegated serger cone thread and some other thread for the quilts a 50% off, and some fabric at 50% and 60% off too.
We looked at the sewing machine needles, only a few cards of serger needles left. The end rack of machine feet and accessories was also 50% off, but I saw that even with the lower price I could beat them at Sew-Classic.
So even with all the discounts we walked out with around $80.00 spent.
I thought my wife was gonna cry ...................
.................... cos she hadn't heard about the closing and discounts 6 weeks ago ........
As it is the loss of the Hancock will leave Springfield with only the one JoAnns. That is pathetic.

You are a great hubby to be this sensitive to your wife!!!!!! My (now ex) would have rejoiced if our local Hancocks had closed since he didn't understand why I needed to constantly buy a little of this and a little of that...... Sorry to hear that your JoAnns will not have any competition....is there a WalMart with bolt fabric nearby???? Mine has recently returned to bolts from doing just precuts for a couple of years, and their selection is pretty good.

Yeah I'm the sensitive type, uh huh. While my wife was looking for fabrics I was raiding the thread rack .
I'm not sure about the local WalMarts. Since they defected out some years back my wife hasn't said much about them. I suspect we'll be looking in on them to check.

We have three WalMarts here and only one carries a very SMALL selection of fabrics. It used to have a complete department of sewing until a couple years ago when the management decided they didn't need it.
The local women pitched a fit but it did not do much good.
As far JoAnns raising raising their prices, that is one of our concerns. The other problem it presents is that it will put several people out of work in an area that is already stressed enough and makes it even harder for me to find a job, as mine up and closed overnight back in April.

We have Wal Marts and JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby, all within around 20 mi or so. We lost all our Hancocks, which was my go to store. Hancocks sold fabric, not all this craft stuff. It was a Fabric Store, period. And I loved it. But as JoAnn's and Wal Marts starting dipping into their sales, I guess they did not have as much business here and closed all the stores.
I always think its sad when we lose another fabric store.
But I imagine our online shopping does not help our local stores much either.
