plans or drawings for a bentwood base
Does anyone have any plans or schematics/drawings for one? I have a 99 and the base is in pieces. When I tried to reattach the pieces they just split so I think I'm going to have to refashion something since it won't work without some kind of base and I'd like to keep it portable. I have two 128's in bases with bentwood tops. Are the dimensions the same? I could just crib those measurements if I had to, I guess.

The pieces have splintered. When I got the "base" it was nothing more than one piece of wood still on the hinges and three other pieces unattached to each other. Some of the dowels were in place but 3 of the 4 corners tried to snap off (some more successfully than others.) Trying to dig out the dowels was futile then the wood started cracking and splintering under any glue and light clamping so I'm pretty sure it's a gonner.

The 128 and the 99 cases are not interchangeable... sort of.
I'd have to go do some measurements, but I think it' the 128 that can go into the 99, but the 99 can't go into the 128 base. It's actually physically shorter than the base for the 99. Of course that could also be period specific, and I happen to have the cases from those periods.
Otherwise, I think the dimensions are the same.

The 99 is the case I need. I have two perfectly serviceable 128 cases (and machines). I'm just going to have to make a base for the 99 at this point. Once 128 is newer (1956) one is older (1924??) and the 99 is older (1926). Sad the bases aren't interchangeable.

I was really surprised when I learned that. I remember, that 99 had a bad attitude and when I tried to put it in the 128 base (the last step that I had to clear then I Would be done with the machine) I might have yelled something similar to "you've got to be kidding!", only not as nice.
That was about 18 months ago. It's still here.
