Tell me about the Singer 231 machine
I'm watching a machine on Goodwill auctions that the serial number puts it at a 231 model made in 54.
I know nothing about it. Never heard of it and am intrigued with it. Does anyone here have one they can give me a first hand report on?
I'm gonna do some searching on my own, but first hand reports are always better.

I have a 1936 Singer 201 treadle machine; its a very quiet, smooth running machine. One of Singer's best. It has a drop in bobbin, rotary hook, takes class 66 bobbins & modern needles. The machine came in 4 configurations:201-2 has a potted motor, direct drive no belt needed, 201-3 is belt driven and has a motor attached to the rear of the machine, 201-1 is a treadle, 201-4 is a hand cranked machine(this is what my machine was originally).
