Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Hi Everybody,
Well today I joined the Featherweight Club. I bought a 1955 221 that had been stored in it's case in a barn for decades. It was dusty pretty bad, but the worst was that the motor was barely functioning when we plugged it in and hit the button. It made a labored sound and barely turned the belt at all. How bad will this be to get it going again? Does it sound like it just needs grease, or a whole new motor? The motor belt needs replacing, but there's something going on with the motor, as it just doesn't turn the belt much at all. What can I try? All the wiring looks surprisingly good.

Okay.... has anyone asked this question yet? There are tons of good clones of 15-91s, 27s, 66s and even 99s. But the 'best' seamstress' machine Singer made was their top o line 201 model.
But I don't see any clones of that? I see front tensioner clones that are like the 66-16, and face plate tensioner clones like the 15-91s.... but were there full sized, 201 clones?
Curious?

Hey, forgot to mention that the lady I bought the Featherweight from also had a nice model 201 in a cabinet that she wanted to sell. I wasn't interested because I have two of those already (they keep finding me!) but I told her I'd mention it here and see if anyone is looking for one. The machine had been in her family, but she didn't sew, so the machine has just sat for a long time and would need a good clean up. She didn't want a lot for it. It's in Mississippi, just outside of Brookhaven, so ATTN: MS BOARD MEMBERS! Anyone interested can PM me and I have her permission to give out her phone number to interested persons. 201s are fantastic machines-- gear driven, beltless, and quiet. This one was built in 1950.

I'm trying to get the hang of how to post. Please bare with me. I recently bought a Davis VF. How do I find out what model I have and how old it is? Thank you for any help.

Read the description, the lady wanted the 306 so she could sew down by the lake without electricity!
