The springs I ordered are a series of full round coils that go clear around the needle, getting larger from top to bottom, with the bottom coil that touches the fabric probably about 1/8" across. I think it would be hard to get your finger under that coil. But I'll take pics when I get it so you all can see. I may be way off, since I don't even have the thing yet. But I want it for my 15 in treadle to FMQ with, so that's why I bought it. I'll be giving a friend of mine the 2nd one I bought. She's much into FMQ on her fancy Bernina.

Hey Miriam...remember the discussion you and I had about my White 77 and your Domestic looking almost exactly the same but you said yours was really light? And I kept saying mine didn't feel light at all? Well, Cathy "enlightened" me (hehe) about the 77 series and that only the 77MG machines were made out of magnesium and were lightweight to compete with the FW's. And that it would say MG on the serial number. I just have a regular, heavyweight model it seems. Boooo for me;>
Willcox & Gibbs Type 11 High Speed Lockstitch Machine
Yes, it’s one of our machines, and thanks for the compliment. We haven’t actually found an application for it at our house yet, but it’s an interesting machine. It’s in a parlor cabinet that houses the industrial motor that powers it.
CD in Oklahoma
WOW check out that motor!!! I love the red machine and cabinet!

Here is a finger guard that would work on many of our vintage Singers and maybe would work with the needle spring?

I will probably get one on my next order.
