Brass brushes are a lot easier that the steel on metal surfaces. The brass is softer and will wear quicker than the steel. But, still take it easy when brushing. I have yet to damage anything that I have used the brass brush on.

Miriam, JB weld is strong but it depends on what part of the leg, Is it one of the four supporting legs or in the foot pedal?
PS I usually go have mine welded. My next door neighbor works on restoring old cars. He always has a welder going.

Skip,
Wish you were closer, I have two treadles with broken parts. Cost to have it done here is prohibitive.

I think welding would be the choice here.

Why is welding so costly in your area. It is cheap here. Most of the time free.

Joe find a highschool tech class for welding and machine work they will usually do it for free or a very small donation.
